Russian Red Garlic is an heirloom variety and the most popular garlic grown in British Columbia due to it's hardiness in cold weather. It was brought to North America by Doukhobor Russian immigrants in the early 1900s.
They are quite large in size, able to fill up the palm of your hand. They have a beautifully distinct, striped purple skin wrapping the bulbs.
Russian Red Garlic has a full-bodied musky flavour. They have a hotness when eaten raw like a spicy pepper which dies out as the garlic is cooked.
